SHOWDOWN BETWEEN GREYHOUND ADOPTION ADVOCATES AND RACING INDUSTRY SLATED FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

Oct 20, 2005 - World Greyhound Racing Federation Conference Greeted with Indignation

Miami, Florida – This week Florida will play host to the World Greyhound Racing Federation, an organization whose expressed goal is the worldwide expansion of dog racing and whose current member countries represent some of the worst offenders of animal welfare standards around the globe. When the Federation chose the Miami area as a venue for their 2005 four-day conference, they must have imagined that they would have free-reign in a state where dog tracks and breeding farms are nearly as common as strip malls. However, when greyhound adoption advocates realized what was coming their way, they resolved that a gathering of greyhound exploiters from around the world would not go unchallenged.

“It’s ironic that they chose Florida,” said Greyhound Protection League representative, Carla Wilson. “Florida is the greyhound abuse capital of the United States with more greyhound abuse cases on record than any other state, including the recent slaughter of Florida race dogs by the infamous Robert Rhodes. I guess they thought that they would be welcome here. In reality, their presence is an affront to all the greyhounds whose blood has been spilled in our state.”

Advocates plan to make their indignation known with a series of events and visual displays:

Thursday, Press Conference (see details above). Speaker, David Wolf, Executive Director of the National Greyhound Adoption Program, will be accompanied by “Judy” who represents all the innocent greyhounds sold into research after they are no longer useful to the racing industry. Mr. Wolf will address the media on a variety of topics related to the greyhound racing industry:

* The ongoing, documented abuse and killing of greyhounds in the United States in spite of nationwide adoption efforts.
* The over-breeding practices of the racing industry.
* The unconscionable exploitation and abuse of greyhound athletes worldwide.
* The greyhound racing industry’s responsibility in the spread of the highly contagious “Dog Flu” that has become a threat to canines nationwide.

Thursday, 1:00 to 2:00 PM: Conference attendees will be greeted with a fly-over banner that reads: “Greyhounds - Win or Die.”

Thursday, 10:30 to 3:30 PM: A huge Mobile Ad depicting a caustic interpretation of the racing industry will circle the area where the conference is taking place.

Friday, October 21st – 6:00 to 7:00 PM: Protest demonstration at the Palm Beach Kennel Club to coincide with conference attendees’ visit to the dog track.
